I noticed this new neighbor busily constructing a nest several weeks ago.
And this is what was in the nest.

Until the other day…

Gee, don’t they look cute (she said sarcastically). They’re cute unless they build their nests under cover of the umbrella that provides shade over the table at which you eat. Then they’re just dirty, dumping birds. Two years in a row! Guess I’ll have to close the umbrella at the beginning of the season. Last year’s brood was 4 robins, this year I noticed one of the eggs was laying on the table, and there were only 3 in the nest. I saw the last one try to “fly the coop”, dropped on the grass somewhat stunned, then flew in little bursts around the yard. Still and all, it was interesting to see how they were fed and how mother robin reacted when I came to sit down. She stayed close by with a worm in her mouth each time until I moved so she could feed the little ones.
